Legalize Prostitution

The skinny on this website is that I have been in many debates over the years in private conversation with friends, family and acquintances about whether or not prostitution should be legalized. To this day I am shocked when I encounted people who believe strongly against it. The debate is complex and requires that people be educated on the subject. If your current opinion on legalizing prostitution is simply based on your perception of what prostitution is, then I invite you to keep an open mind and hear me out.

The purpose of this website will be to display my thoughts on the subject and try to convince as many people as possible that legalizing prostution is not only a good idea, but it’s something we must do in order for our society to move forward in a civilised and peacful manner. I also want to make it clear that I am not some 60 year old married “John” who is pushing this agenda for my own benefit. Nor am I an escort or a pimp or madam, I stand nothing to gain by having prostitution legalized aside from living in a scoiety that is more peaceful and more tolerant.

Women’s Right to be Prostitutes

With that being said I am going to break down several aspects of why prostitution should be legalized begining with women’s rights. Yeah, that’s right! WOMEN’S rights! There are many different aspects of having prostitution illegal that violates womens rights. In fact, a lot of countries make it so that a woman can charge for their time and what happens between two consenting adults is OK. Because it would be UNCONSTITUTIONAL to say otherwise. However they can not advertise, they can not solicit, they can not run a common bawdy house, they can not live off of the avails of prostitution, they can not do anything that would facilitate them exercising their constiutional right.

I’ll give you an analogy, if the city didn’t want fat people to ride public transit, they couldn’t say “No Fat People Allowed” because that would be unconstitutional. But how about if they made the doors onto the bus so small that only slim people could make it through them? Okay, say someone fat made it onto the bus some how, but the corridor where you find your seat was so small any one over weight could not possibly make it through. Finally if fat people some how made a way to the seat, the leg room, the sitting area and the back support was made in a way that it could not accomodate fat people in the chairs. The city would not have to say “NO FAT PEOPLE ALLOWED” on every bus, it’d simply be understood that fat people can’t ride public transportation. This is what’s happening with prostitution right now in our very society and no one even brings up this point.

Benefits of Legalizing Prostitution

Let’s not act like all hell would break loose the second prostitution would be legalized. Would you agree that getting into a car with a stranger would be a bad idea? Me too! But millions of people do it every day because it’s REGULATED. Taxi drivers have licenses, they go through criminal background checks and the state makes sure that they have a drivers license and know how to operate a vehicle. So how have so many people made it past this major no-no of society’s standard? They have done so because of necessity. It is needed to have taxis in a major city. If you can regular taxi drivers, you can regulate prostitution. Don’t give licenses to illegal immigrats (women who have been sex trafficked), don’t give licenses to underage children, don’t give licenses to criminals (elimantes most heavy drug users), don’t give licenses to people who haven’t passed a sex worker safety class.

If some guy came up to you while you were waiting for a cab and said he had a car, come with him, would you accept? NO! You’d wait for a licensed taxi driver. We could improve society’s awareness of prostitution to a point where clients of prostitutes would simply see it as too risky to use a non-licensed prostitute. It’s not a fantasy world, it’s completely possible. Men who use prostitutes are not criminals in other aspects of their life. They are your son, your husband, your brother, the guy you work with. They are normal people who abide the law in every other way, but are forced into being criminals because of the current law’s view on prostitution.

Examples of Legalization
I am not asking any one to take my word for it, a lot of people are surprised to find out that many european countries and other first world countries have legalized prostitution. Whether you believe it or not, the sky didn’t fall down in those countries! They are still running fine and it’s business as normal. I am going to go over a bunch of different examples including both past and present where society’s have legalized prostitution and analyze what they did right and wrong about it and show you how in each and every situation, at least the results are better then where we’re at now.

Prostition is one of the only debates you can have with people where you can explain the benefits through example of other countries and societies who have legalized prostitution and still have people throw back in your face on some trumped up charges of morality or other non-sensical arguments.

Eliminate Criminal Aspect
One of the main reasons I am advocating the legalizing of prostitution is that removing the criminal aspect of it is one of the most important things we can do. We are throwing people who aren’t criminals in jail and it’s costing us a ton of money. I don’t think people realize just how much money it’s costing to keep all of these prostitutes in jail, it’s money that could be going towards our medicare, our children’s education, or actually winning a war for once! Instead we put these people who need help in jail and turn them into hardened criminals. Meanwhile, do you know how many men actually go to jail for being a pimp? Do you know how hard it is to actually prosecute someone for pimping to the point where they see serious jail time? Normally the only people who see the inside of a jail cell on pimping charges are white collar people who run upscale escorting agencies because they keep records and pay taxes!!

The current laws do not even concern pimps on the street who are the actual criminals. Maybe these pimps go to jail on drug charges and assault charges and other forms of criminal activity associated with pimping, but they almost never get prosecuted for the act of pimping itself. By legalizing prostitution it will have ZERO effect on these pimps being able to run wild, they already are! However if the women they are abusing and controlling are no longer to attract customers because prostitution is legalized and the women they lewer into prostitution are no longer able to be licensed then we can eliminate the criminal aspect entirely.
